No crashes after changing Proton version. Solid 30fps performance on Steam Deck OLED after adjustments.
I suggest making quality-of-life grip button assignments for Crouch and Interact commands.
- L4 = Left Bumper (gamepad)
- R4 = A Button (gamepad)
Default text is small and difficult to read, but can be adjusted in the Settings.
- Settings > Display > Text Size = 125
- Settings > Display > User Interface Scale = 120
Kona II features a built-in FSR system which can significantly slow game performance. This FSR system can be turned off in the game Settings, allowing the game to run with Ultra settings. Follow these steps, in order:
- Set Steam Deck Frame Limit to 30
- Settings > Graphics > Preset > Ultra
- Settings > Graphics > Render Scale > 50
- (optional) Settings > Graphics > Depth of Field > Disabled
On the default Proton version (as of writing) the game frequently crashes. Switching to Proton version 9.0-4 resolves the crashing issue.
- Steam Deck Kona II menu > Gear icon > Properties... > Compatibility > Force use of... > Proton 9.0-4
Kona II requires adjustments. The game is enjoyable and stable at 30fps after making the adjustments mentioned in this report:
- Change Proton version.
- Turn off in-game FSR.
- Lock frame rate.
- Add optional grip button commands.

This game runs and plays great by default, just gotta increase text and ui size in settings.
By default text is pretty small (especially in menus). You can fix this in the settings menu by increasing text and ui sizes.
