Ubisoft wasn't kidding, this is a day-one Verified title. The game keeps a good framerate throughout combat and traversal. The only downside is that (due to currently unchangeable resolution scaling), things can look nice and then suddenly muddy. I have been having a great time regardless.
There might be some performance gains to be had with GE-Proton. Otherwise, I suspect once we get some more patches in 6 months to a year, this game will run even better at 30 FPS with FSR set to Quality.
Playable at 30 FPS. Low settings, FSR Quality/Balanced, HDR off, offline mode, bloom and depth of field disabled, etc.
-dx11
It's absolutely playable, provided your definition of playable is 30 FPS. My performance massively improved once I used -dx11 and GE-Proton. Naturally, prepare for a hazy FSR-looking experience.
Playable at around 30 FPS. GE-Proton, low settings, FSR 3.1 Performance, HDR off, FPS limit to 30, etc.
SteamDeck=0 %command%
This is (by my definition) just barely playable. Barely. You'll get frequent traveral stutter, slideshow combat, and it won't look pretty. However, someone who isn't bothered by playing in the 20-30fps range may be able to enjoy the game. If the Steam Deck is your only way to play games, then you'll be able to get this working enough to experience Silent Hill 2 -- though I highly recommend it on a decent rig.
The two settings that made the biggest difference were GE-Proton and the Steam Deck launch command to get FSR 3.1. Without them, acceptable performance is nigh impossible.
The only way to progress past the proprietary launcher is to tap the very bottom of the screen and pray you hit the button. Usually takes 3-4 tries.
Darktide was rough early on, but now it runs well and even looks good at the lowest settings. You can comfortably enjoy the game this way. Tinkering highly recommended to get the extra FPS.
The devs have said they're working on Steam Deck support. This game needs an ultra low setting similar to Last of Us.
Terrible framerate and frame pacing
