As long as you don't Alt-Tab, and the mouse issue is only my own issue then the game works just as well as playing on windows.
Whenever you Alt-Tab while fullscreen you get a black screen when you go back in, forcing you to restart the game.
I had moments where my mouse would be slow, then speed up. Controller works perfectly (it doesn't work in menus though)
if you can handle the back n forth fps drops then maybe, but if you can't then i would wait a while longer.
FPS is everywhere, could be the shaders loading. playable if you play at 60fps though.
Before you startup the game go to the game files and rename the videos folder, or just delete the videos. game will startup instead of flat out crashing.
Inputs work fine, some people report that KB&M don't work. Xbox One controller works too using xow.
Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Performance is a back and forth 40-100 FPS while attempting to play
Deleting the videos in the games video folder allows you to get in and actually play the game. Can also just rename the folder, but whatever works. it will crash once, but then 2nd boot will work.

Used the RPM XIVLauncher as for some reason the Flatpak version has a weird bug regarding XIVCore causing the game after an hour to stutter horribly.
Experience is great after about 560ish~ hours of playtime. I use the Standalone Version with no issues what so ever.
XIV Standalone would be the prefered way to play since the regular launcher for steam users likes to break regularly, you can get past it with the XIVLauncher which works wonderfully.
Lutris XIV launcher has been my best experience while XIVLauncher standalone i needed the RPM version to get it working properly due to the earlier bug i mentioned.
i have 2,400 hours on FF14 despite what steam says (stopped using steam integration due to steam deck) and it has been pretty much a flawless experience. There is the very occasional crash, but that's either due to mods, or reshade when changing settings. (outside of instances)
Just don't do what they recommend unless you are a steam deck user. Open XIV Launcher and use the steam integration in there instead of opening it as a non-steam game. XIVLauncher.Core for some reason doesn't like it when you do that and causes the infamous stuttering after elongated periods of time. This doesn't happen on deck in handheld as far as i can tell, but happens on desktop.
Also for those with the problem of camera moving and keypresses failing, it's a issue with the wine/proton version you're using. go through different versions until it works, or else again get XIV Launcher and let the launcher manage that.
Game runs perfectly fine out of the box
just remember to enable controller configurations for your controller, other than that it's worked just fine for me.
The fix makes the game playable, but hopefully capcom will fix the rest of the performance issues later down the line.
proton-ge-5rc-mhw
Still a drop in performance, but is now playable
So far my experience has been great. Runs at 144fps just fine, only problem is Ultrawide users will have to deal with pillars on the sides.
if you don't use proton 6.3-8 you'll crash after a few seconds. i've tried GE versions, as well as just older 7.0 versions. 6.3-8 is the version to use if you're going to play from my experience.
As long as y ou use 6.3-8 you wont have any issues and everything works from what i tested
The game itself runs perfectly fine so far after my 45 minutes of playtime.
The game auto defaults to Xbox controller scheme for the UI, this happened on my windows side so be wary that you'll need to figure out what keys are what for the controller buttons. if you use a controller there shouldn't be any real issue.
Also the game only runs at 30fps, and no this isn't a bug, that's what they set it to.
