You might have to launch multiple times until the launcher actually runs. If you can't get past the initial login, set STARTUP_COMPLETED in FFXIV_BOOT.cfg to 1.
Definitely enable the hidewineexports winetrick or else the launcher will assume you're running on macOS and require a Mac account. That has cost me quite some time and no one seems to mention it.
Using Proton 5.9-GE-3-ST.
Choppy frame rate when turning. Choosing DirectX 9 seems to improve performance.
DO NOT click the login button in the launcher. It will crash the launcher. Hit enter instead. And prepare to get locked out of your account if you were running the game on another system before.

I installed the wmp11 protontricks and I'm using Proton-5.9-GE-3-ST.
The window went haywire resizing itself when I collapsed the menu bar.
