It works, but there are so many problems with the default configuration that I don't know how to solve or if they can be solved.
Most inventory text is too small to read at a glance
Default graphics looked pretty grainy, anything with fur or feathers was a pixely mess. Holding a tool in front of water causes the reflections underneath it to render awkwardly, same applies to reflections rendered behind foliage. Grass will ocassionally "refresh", where it will suddenly move the patches to different areas, which is jarring.
Connecting to a private server by IP requires going into desktop mode to access Steam's server menu, as far as I know.
The game works, but by default looks pretty bad and doesn't control very well on controller. The controls are clunky in the menus due to a bunch of odd button choices for navigation that render playing unintuitive. For the visual issues, you may be able to fix that with the in game options (but I have no clue what options would make the game look decent in this scenario) and the controls probably should be completely rebound to use keyboard and mouse inputs with the trackpads.
In-game audio occasionally noticibly slows down when returning from sleep mode on Steam Deck. Returns to normal is left for awhile or restarted.
Crashes the Steam Deck to a black screen in multiplayer sometimes. I have played several hours in solo play and it has only crashed once, but playing with my friend on Windows will randomly result in a crash, inside and outside hunts.
Random Steam Deck crashes frequently inturrupt multiplayer.
My only gripe with MHR is that the multiplayer randomly crashes my Steam Deck, forcing me to restart the system and rejoin. I haven't heard about anyone else talking about this issue, so it could be just me. I haven't tried switching Proton versions since I don't have a reproducible method to test for crashes.
Audio sometimes slows down and becomes distorted when returning from sleep mode on Steam Deck. Fixed by restarting game or leaving it for awhile until it reverts.
Crashes the whole Steam Deck randomly while in multiplayer, and I have had random freezes that require a reboot, only in multiplayer. I don't know the cause as it happens both in and outside of hunts, but it is most frequent in multiplayer.
Aforementioned random crashing of the Steam Deck in multiplayer. Requires a reboot when it happens.
Sorry if this is a duplicate report, my last one didn't seem to register as pending on my profile so I am making a new one.
My only gripe with Monster Hunter Rise on Steam Deck is the random crashing in multiplayer when playing with my friend on Windows. I haven't tinkered with other Proton versions since I don't know the cause of the issue. Otherwise, it is more than playable and really should be Verified in my opinion despite the crashing.
The Open Beta is Barely Playable, if you can tolerate visuals akin to a oil painting played on a PowerPoint
UI Elements are pretty small compared to other monster Hunter games, even when turning up the size in game
Everything except the game's UI is a black screen unless you turn off upscaling. There are multiple texture loading issues, such as the quest completion banner, the aiming reticle for the slinger, and some UI events. I'm not sure if it's because of the low settings required to get the game to be playable, but there is a lot of flicker in elements like shadows and light rays.
Game displays grey bars on the top and bottom of the screen instead of black, can be fixed by toggling full screen settings
Runs about 17 fps during gameplay. Relatively stable.
The open beta version works if you fiddle with settings a bit. Just turn off upscaling to actually get any visuals.
Crashes on boot
This same setup ran both of the Open Beta Tests and the Benchmark Tool at a decent performance, with occasional crashing in gameplay for both. I have tried Proton 9.0-4, Experimental, Hotfix, and GE. The game crashes before getting to the optimizing screen. I think even the crash reporter is crashing, as it closes before the loading bar goes all the way. Tried launch options from other ProtonDB users, none fixed the issue.
To make matters worse, Denuvo has locked me out for 24 hours TWICE, first when changing proton versions, and now when just changing launch options. Now I can't even try to troubleshoot the software I paid good money for until tomorrow.
I think I'm just going to have to wait for a patch from Capcom or Proton. I'm tired.
