I mainly use this game as a benchmarking and stress testing tool for my new PC builds and Overclocking tweaks. It works fine with Tweaks.
gamemoderun %command%
Initial booting of the game after switching to DX12 mode takes a long time. Be Patient. Once it loads the game is fine and will boot faster afterwards.
The Launcher menu does not render properly for me. It is basicly invisible. Using the "/nolauncher" tag in STEAM custom commands avoids issues with it.
If you are having trouble try using older Proton 6.3-8 and add "/nolauncher" steam command after gamemode command like this : gamemoderun %command% /nolauncher
I initially tried playing with the Vulkan API set in DOOM advanced graphics menu. This setting caused artifacts and instability.
Using the Open GL settings in the DOOM advanced gfx menu with [Proton 7.0-3] fixed all my issues with instability and artifacts. Game ran at a very high FPS with my hardware (AMD 390X) , well above my refresh rate of 72hz with ALL settings on Ultra or maxed out.
This report includes using the ELCP mod V2.7.8 ; instructions for how in link below: <a>https://youtu.be/HeeBFZJ-9ro</a>
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% -useembedded
EL+ELCP mod can be done in Linux! See my YT video for a how to guide.
EL+ELCP mod worked great with Proton Experimental. No STEAM Launch Options were required with this hardware config using Linux Mint 21
No Launch Options required for Max settings with FPS +72hz using Proton Experimental on this hardware. I did have to tinker with Linux Mint 21 to get my AMD R9-390X gfx card to use the [amdgpu] linux graphics driver, instead of the older [radeon] one, which was causing problems in some games.
gamemoderun %command% --disable-gpu
I played in a populated map with my brother for about an hour. No issues at all. Will update i heavier map population causes slow downs in the future as it did last year when I tried to play.
I am running on Linux Mint 21.2 and walked through CTT Ultimate Linux Gaming Guide including changing the Kernel to 6.4.7-1-liquorix-amd64. I also became aware the btrfs file systems may not perfom as well as ext4 due to fuctionality missing for some STEAM and Proton related code. I am using ext4 file system this time around.
I ran through CTT Ulitmate Linux gaming Tweaks, and enable game mode by using: gamemoderun %command% in the Steam Properties Advanced Launch options.
