Issues with alt-tab
I have been playing Fallout New Vegas on Linux for many years, and alt-tab has always been an issue on every Desktop Environment I've tried. NVSE is required for this method, so if you plan to just use Vanilla Fallout New Vegas this won't apply to you.
I have found the following method to be the best in dealing with Fallout New Vegas crashing when it loses window focus. Change Fallout New Vegas to run in windowed mode. Use the vanilla launcher and select windowed mode or In falloutcustom.ini

To get the same fullscreen experience use the mod "OneTweak for FNV." It changes windowed mode to a borderless version making it look and play identical to full screen mode. https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/59266 This will allow you to run Fallout New Vegas and use alt tab to switch windows without crashes.
The game was running flawlessly until a week ago. I think an update to video drivers has messed something up.
Crashes when entering or leaving combat. The game works fine on the world map
I had an issue where the game crashes randomly when entering or leaving combat. I believe it had to do with .net 472, but I am not certain.
The issue was resolved after steam randomly reinstalled "steamworks redistributables" for the game.
