If you have a sufficiently powerful set up this should present no problem on linux. As of this review game is still in early access.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC
Works fine within a Ryzen 3rd gen CPU, struggles with the Ryzen 5 1st gen renoir (mobile). Had to disable Esync.
Framerate unacceptably low using Renoir graphics from mobile CPU. Works fine using a gen 2 ryzen 5. Demo worked fine with renoir. I see a significant framerate drop with the player sprite.
Full game runs at 10-20 FPS using a Clevo NL-40ru with Renoir graphics solution. Demo was 30-60.
Runs at 100-120 FPS using a Ryzen 5 5500 Radeon RX580
Game is still in early access as I write this report. I have hopes the devs will improve things over time.
As long as a typical player is prepared to disable anisotropic filtering I think it's a fairly playable game on linux.
Switched windows version to windows 7.
Mostly minor visual glitches. Some textures would not display properly (particularly mining veins), until I disablied anisotropic filtering.
After switching to experimental most of the significant game crashes were related to levels with color veins textures. Prior to switching to experimental it would also freeze when attempting to interact with Sister AVA.
Infrequent visual artifacts occur when not using proton experimental.
The game's 15+ years old, there's defintely some issues with the shaders as have been mentioned by other reports. With minor tinkering it's quite playable.
Worked great out of the box. No significant tinkering required.
some pops and crackling, mostly when playing back dialogue.
I had no problems with this game.
Game MUST run with the unofficial patch: https://www.moddb.com/downloads/start/255290/all or else it can't map RAM correctly.
I set up a launcher for loader.exe (installed by the patch), which was able to be parsed by steam. This required no launch options, and the game is otherwise stable once launched through loader.exe.
The file path should be something like ~/home/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines/
With mod launcher (Loader.exe) the game functions more like a boarderless window. Worked fine with wayland.
Quitting the game through the main menu worked, but I am pretty confident it just crashed instead of closing.
This game is getting old, and as such it's increasingly reliant on community contributions to keep it running.
