Shadow, ambient occlusion, and bloom disabled regardless of settings. Can be brought back by editing one of the game's ini files. See summary for detail.
Very occasional crash on loading screen. Issue not present in WIndows 10 w/ same hardware.
Purchased DLCs not reconized or do not load
The game is perfectly playable on Linux natively, but there are some problems that may bother you:
- Purchased DLCs does not load, best bet is play w/ proton.
- Graphical downgrade. Game was missing shadow, ambient occulation, and bloom effects. Can be brought back by editing willowengine.ini under
/home/<username>/.local/share/asypr-media/borderlands 2/willowgame/config/
, findDynamicLights
underSystemSettings
section, set it from False to True.
June 24th, 2024 Lobelia's Birthday update causes game to crash right before main menu shows
Proton Experimental, set Load Cache Memory Size to 0GB
.
Used to work fine until June 24th Lobelia's Birthday update came along, game loads launcher, initial loading screen, you can collect daily login rewards, then right before the main menu shows up (where the HTML announcements displays and your main girl greet you), the game crashes.
Subsquent updates (June 27th, 2024 "Reika" update at time of this post) did not fix the issue.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %COMMAND%
Launching using official Proton versions will give you "Terminate network connection" when login.
To fix that:
- Install and assign GE-Proton7-43 using a program called ProtonUp-Qt
- In LAUNCH OPTIONS under Properties -> GENERAL enter "DXVK_ASYNC=1 %COMMAND%". You should now be able to login and play the game.
Notes:
- Steam Overlay does not work.
- Steam screenshot key only works once per session. After one screenshot you can't take more unless restart the game.
- Pictures taken in Studio View are not saved on Steam, they are instead located in /home//.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1184140/pfx/dosdevices/c:/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/KartDrift/Saved/Screenshots/
RTX card + HoloISO. Experience will not be pleasent due to major graphical bugs.
- Ray-tracing doesn't work
- Player model is visible in first person
- Reflective props or objects are devoid of material (showing bright texture not affected by surrounding light sources)
- Main menu clip through each other
- Tutorial text not sized correctly,
- Portals do not glow and are not see through (only showing wall behind them).
Everything else except graphics (audio, menu function, gameplay, etc) works as it should. Recommend staying away from this if you have Nvidia GPU + HoloISO. No launch options mentioned in Reddit and Steam forums have worked for me so far.
Buggy controller detection on HoloISO. No problem otherwise.
If you play on HoloISO, the game will think you have a controller connected even if you don't. As a result the game will prevent you from interacting with menus and other UI elements via keyboard & mouse.
Because I am playing on HoloISO (an image of the Steam Deck OS for PC), the game thinks I am playing on the Steam Deck (aka. having an internal controller), thus disable mouse & keyboard input for all UI elements including menus for me.
.
Make sure you have a controller if you plan on playing the Steam version on HoloISO. Or install the launcher non-steam version via Lutris if you insist on keyboard & mouse.
.
Otherwise, the game runs perfectly w/ latest Proton version.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Sometimes game get locked at 20-30 fps for entire section. Restart fixes it most of the time.
Proton 8.0-5, smooth experience overall except for occasional frame-rate lock (stuck at 20-30 fps unless restarted). Add DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
as launch option to reduce occasional stutter.
