No matter the launch options or proton version I couldn't get past the initial loading screen
Tested launch options "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" and "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%" (plus both at the same time) Tested Proton-6.16-GE-1, 6.18-GE-2, 6.19-GE-1, Proton Experimental, 6.3-7, 5.13-6. All crash immediately, minuscule improvements such as getting to the road map screen on some before crashing.
Works out of box after latest bug fix
Struggles to surpass 100 fps while often dipping below 60 while Windows 10 comfortably sits at 144 fps.

It took me three attempts to get my PS4 controller working fine, and at one point I randomly couldn't jump (X button only). The latter might have been intentional, I might have been magnetised to the ground because: am robot, but it caught me off guard and fixed itself after a short while.
Frames would fluctuate at times, down to 30fps at worst.
I tested Proton Experimental for a couple minutes and it was perfect as well from my limited experience.
Viewing other player's guild cards will lead to a crash upon attempting to load one of your in-game pictures.
During cutscenes there is no SFX, only voice and music.
Frost Islands always crashes within 5 minutes making any quest in that location unbeatable. There are Urgent Quests (necessary quests) that are here making progression through the story impossible.
If you have access to Windows like I do you can play most of the game on Linux and enjoy it a lot, but Linux has roadblocks that makes essentially 1/7th of the game unplayable and the story unbeatable.
Unfortunately the ticking time bomb that is the game crashing makes it difficult to enjoy a play session.
Textures spot loading after time, slowly leading into computer wide freeze
After textures stop loading, the game will crash
Online play is flawless
Alt+Tab results in black screen. Changing between fullscreen and windowed is finicky.
Menus and online play are unbearably slow
Everything is just slowed down half speed to the point I would think I'm connected using Nintendo Online
Partial Controller Support so it's bound to have problems and they might not even be proton exclusive but here was my experience: My wired PS4 controller was mapped all over the place and if I opened my inventory it would rapidly switch between pages. The game's Configuration Tool has remapping but it's really janky so I tried Steam Controller Configuration and none of my changes had an effect. SOLUTION: Launching the game and then plugging in my controller will make it recognise my controller as "SDL Steam Virtual Gamepad" as opposed to "Sony Dualshock 4 V2" when I launch with it plugged in. Doing so and seeing the SDL Gamepad notification in the bottom right will make everything work perfectly.
Frame drops to 40fps sometimes with and without vsync
Works out of box
Strange flicker from alt+tabbing in and out of game. No more than a quick flicker, very minor.
