Install dotnet20 and d3dx9_29. After this restart protontricks and select Caesar IV again and first there should be plenty of errors but they don't mean anything. After all those errors there should be a windows of the microsoft .NET 2.0 setup. Just follow the setup steps like you would on windows. After I heard that back in protontricks select Run taskmgr and there click start a new task and enter cmd. Then click ok and the command prompt should show up. Then type cd .steam/steam/steamapps/common/Caesar 4/C4 and next click enter and enter Registerdll.bat so I did this but I don't think you NEED to do run the taskmgr and do the Registerdll.bat thing cause when I turned off protontricks and deleted the task with the cmd the game still worked.
Works very good. It really deserves more than a bronze ranking. It should have silver honestly. After tinkers the game works like a charm. So in most of comments below people say that you need to switch to proton 4.11-13 but for me it worked with proton 8.0-5.

Had to set the launch options else the game was running in 1-5 fps. In 1366x768 there was a black screen so I had to change to 1280x720 to prevent this. You CAN use proton 8.0-5 but for better experience use 5.0-10. With 8.0-5 the game was most likely working in 60fps but sometimes it would fall to 5-10 fps but just for a few seconds before it gets back to 60.
Installed the game and worked on first try. Works like it would on windows.

It works only with proton 5.0-10 with the resolution set to 1024x768. With proton 8.0-5 the map becomes instantly black.
The game crashes after starting a game if the resolution is not set 1024x768.
There is not much tinkering to do. Use proton 5.0-10 to prevent missing textures and put the resolution to 1024x768 to prevent the game to instatly crash after starting a game.
Most of textures have a very dark contrast which looks weird

Worked only with proton 6.3-8 else there was a black screen. Overall, I do not recommend to play this game on linux. You can play the remastered version that was released not a long time ago. It has a platinum ranking so it should work out of the box. But if you really want to play this exact original game. Then just download a playstation 1 emulator and a tomb raider rom.
Only when doing the parkour in laras home. When you fail the parkour she gives you some tips. She will repeat the same word over and over until she gives you another tip. Not bothering at all.
The game works perfectly. Just not a long time ago with proton 7.0-6 the game was very laggy without tinkering. Now with 8.0-5 it works great with no tinkering.
