Mouse cursor is very sluggish in settings menu and during game play. The lag is about half a second.
I tried to reduce the graphics details (AA off, set details and shadows, etc to low, reduce screen size to 1600x1200). None of that had any effect.
Videos don't play.
Workaround: There is just two of them in the game folder which you can play using any Linux video player.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
The controls feel a bit laggy. Also, you notice when the game loads more textures and compiles shaders; when that happens, the game freezes for a moment.
Try to walk around a while without aggro enemies before pulling them in order to avoid getting stuck in the middle of an attack.
Game didn't start because two DLLs couldn't be loaded:
598654.839:011c:0120:err:module:import_dll Loading library X3DAudio1_7.dll (which is needed by L"Z:\home\...\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\Binaries\Win32\Fable Anniversary.exe") failed (error 4000000e). 598654.840:011c:0120:err:module:import_dll Loading library XAPOFX1_5.dll (which is needed by L"Z:\home\...\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable An niversary\Binaries\Win32\Fable Anniversary.exe") failed (error 4000000e).
To fix this, I ran this command:
protontricks-flat 288470 xact
There was a scary warning at the end (warning: Note: command .../wine regsvr32 xactengine2_0.dll returned status 3. Aborting.) but it did install a bunch of DLLs anyway.
Afterwards, the game started without issue. Videos played well, no glitches that I could notice, sound was fine as well.
Black screen after starting the demo, didn't try the full game because of this.
Don't run the game for the first time with Proton 8 - the new EA launcher is not able to start the game. Use 7.0-6 instead.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" %command% PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
When running the game with Proton 7.0-6, an older version of the EA launcher will be used and starting the game works. Proton 8 allows EA to install a newer launcher; the launcher has no benefit for playing and the game runs well with Proton 7. There is no need to use the latest version.
At the time of writing, I played the game for 6 hours and managed to make Shepard a Spectre plus several side quests. I had no crashes or unexpected problems.
Note: Maybe the launch options are not necessary; I didn't try to reset them, yet.
Make sure you have the latest nvidia-gl-G06 drive installed. I was on nvidia-glG05 (driver version 470*). Proton can't provide a working DirectX 11 environment in this case.
