Manual Proton selection confirmed. I played a standard fresh game on navezgane for a few hours at Max settings. Experimented here and there with combat, weapons and destruction. Performance was not only more responsive than in Windows 10, but my frames were consistently solid whereas in windows I would experience the occasional dip. I'll probably play 7DTD exclusively on Linux now.
It was not possible to switch back and forth between the game and another desktop when placing the game on another virtual desktop in GNOME 3.36.3 under Ubuntu 20.04 (Pop! OS).
Not a problem, but with all graphic settings set to their maximums, the game is noticeably more sluggish than when running in Windows 10 with a frame rate reduction of about 5-10 FPS.
Ran as expected out of the box. 81-85 FPS Max graphic settings, fullscreen.
Ran with Proton 4.11-1 Comparable to Native Windows release on default settings. Increasing quality and adding 4x FAA performed about the same.
Very playable with a solid 60FPS avg. at Medium graphic settings. High and Epic settings both performed about the same with frames from 40 to 53 FPS. Ran in game benchmarks. Day benchmark: 59.71 avg. FPS. Night benchmark 59.43 avg. FPS.
