Lights and other items flash or glitch occasionally, even in the menus.
Needed to set the game to Borderless. Alt-Tabbing out when in fullscreen causes a total hang. Going Windowed made the game very slow.
Sometimes the game will slow to a crawl when entering a new area. maybe 1FPS , even on Very Low settings. This was more noticeable when I tried some of the command line tweaks. Just using the older Proton version seemed to iron out most of the issues, but the game is still a glitchy mess sometimes, especially if you alt-tab out.
The game will completely crash on any Proton version based on 8. Only 7.0.x worked at all. The game will start up in 8, but will try to start the "running feet" animation after the initial splash screen and will hang there.
Changing settings while the game is running will sometimes result in a gradual degradation in performance, requiring a quit/restart.
I tried this with ALL the command line settings given in other recommendations, and I looked up the DXVK / PROTON prefixes. Nothing helps. going -dx11 seemed to help for a little while, but the lights flashing got really bad and the crashing more frequent for me.
The game is, largely playable, so long as you are very very patient. You need to WAIT for the game to load, ESPECIALLY if you have Vulkan set to Async, as it'll start loading the shaders while the game's loading, which makes everything look like it's crashed for up to ten minutes.
I have a Logitech Thrustmaster-GT. By default, Snowrunner doesn't properly recognise this wheel, so I've had to replace the default hid-logitech with hid_logitech_new provided by a package called lg4ff from github. Snowrunner still needs to be set to "generic" wheel, "DirectX" each time the game loads, and usb usually needs to be pulled out and pushed back in again after the game loads to reset the force feedback to correct settings.
Thrustmaster-GT needed lg4ff package installed for it to work properly with the Thrustmaster wheel. Game keeps forgetting the wheel type, and redetects it as a G92 or something, which needs resetting each time you start the game. Also, the game incorrectly sets the FF settings, so you need to pull-push the USB to clear those after loading.
Works excellently, just need to set to Borderless.
As others have noticed, you can't easily Alt-Tab back into the game. You just need to run it in "Borderless", and that fixes the problem perfectly.
