Played the game in Japanese. No issues whatsoever with the default settings. Videos played with audio.
In short, works perfectly.

Default proton works well. ProtonGE loses audio in the cutscenes and the usual "GST_PLUGIN_FEATURE_RANK=protonaudioconverterbin:NONE %command%" workaround to get audio does not work.
I play in Japanese and by default you will see boxes in some fo the dialog windows. Need to change the game's locale to Japanese by setting the launch command to: "HOST_LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 %command%"
Not all GE-proton versions play the videos correctly and some cause the gamepad to stop working. 8-25 works perfectly.

Fullscreen mode cripples performance. Use windowed for best experience
Played the game in Japanese from start to end. With the launch options and specific GE-proton version, there was no issues playing the game on my steam deck. Intro and ending videos played with audio and controllers were always functional & responsive.
