Unfortunately did not even launch
Tried Proton Experimental as well as Proton-7.0rc3-GE-1, not much difference
It installed EAC and a loading bar appeared, but even when it showed full loading, still nothing happend. I had like 5 of those windows in my activity list, very weird. Never got passed it though. Also didn't try any launching commands, as I don't know any, nor do I know where to find them.
This is my first report on this game, but it's not the first time I tried to run this game on Linux. First time I tried, it was on different hardware and a different distro (Arch at the time), Manjaro now, and back then I managed to launch the game, but couldn't get online to work.
Unable to locate the Rockstar Games Launcher, please verify your game data.
When I try to run the game, I'm given an error message, saying this: "Unable to locate the Rockstar Games Launcher, please verify your game data." and I can only choose "ok" or "help", when I press on "ok", it just closes.
I've tried with no tinker, and I've also tried with tinkering, with several proton versions, like 4.11-13, 5.0-7, 4.2-9, 5.0-GE-1, 4.20-GE-1, 4.21-GE-2, and they all gave the exact same result.
Even after verifying integrity of game files.
It's interesting, cause just like 3-4 days ago, I could run it perfectly out of the box, even the problem I used to have with the game running slower/stutterish after having minimized the game, seemed to have disappeared too.
In Windowed mode, the window isn't stretched fully to 1280x1024, so I see the white lines on both sides of the window.
Got the game running again, as it should, out of the box by following this: "Try to remove pfx folder for gtaV (app id 271590, search for it in your steam folder), steam will reinstall RGL / some libs on the next run. Try running with proton 4 or 5 after removal."
I went to /home/WHATEVERYOURUSERNAMEIS/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/271590/ and deleted the pfx folder, then I ran the game again, and it installed social club, afterwards I could start the game and run it perfectly fine again.
Note, deleting pfx folder means losing some settings (I guess), cause I had to re-configure the brightness before coming to the main game menu.
I guess almost perfect out of the box?
I've had some issue where the audio is completely gone, no sound effects, music or anything, though it hasn't happened very often, and unfortunately I don't remember what exactly I was doing at the time. It's possible it has something to do with alt-tabbing the game.
Not sure, but I might have the same issue as I've had the entire time with this game on Linux, which is that if I alt-tab and then go back into the game several times (not necessarily doing it quickly or continuously), like alt-tabbing to go on the internet or maybe do something on say, Discord, anything that puts the game under another window, it eventually leads to the game being laggy/stutterish, pretty much unplayable, so I have to restart the game to fix the issue.
Seems to be near flawless out of the box (not sure if having set Experimental in Steam Play counts as out of the box, but I'm sure it works without too), is just that I think I've had audio completely disappear somtimes, and the lag/stutter issue when alt-tabbing x amount of times, otherwise it works perfectly in my case.
And if it is to any help, it's been like this even on my previous hardware, and when I was on Arch Linux, so in that sense nothing seems to have changed for me.
Pretty much the same as others have reported
After EAC (Easy Anti Cheat) loading screen, a splash screen shows up, and like 1 minuter after that, I get an error message saying this: "Error 106: Security module initialization failure", I press "Ok" on it and after a few seconds it closes the game.
Didn't notice anything aside from the stutter, otherwise worked flawlessly for the 1 time against a bot and 2x against somebody online
Some stuttering occured, at least in 1vs1 online, not sure if it was the opponent doing something shady, just something with Proton or the game's compatibility with Linux.
Can't say I noticed anything specifically in relation to this, unless my stutter issue had anything to do with it of course.
Since I only played for like 15-20 minutes, I'm not sure if there are any issues passed that point, nor am I sure if the stuttering only occurs sometimes, always or just like at specific points. I suppose it's not impossible that shader cache was running and caused it, but maybe that's very unlikely?
Only tried with keyboard and solo, but didn't experience any significant issues.
Have yet to try online or at least against AI and also with wheel, but in solo there was no problems with keyboard at least.
Pressed Play and a small GameGuard error window popped up
Small GameGuard error window popped up, pressed on it, a bigger window (nProtect GameGuard) popped up, where it explains how to analyze the "crashing" problem on your PC.
I'm pretty sure it's not possible playing this, thanks to their Anti Cheat.
