One of the first games I tried after switching to Linux, and I am seriously, madly impressed
I got scared in the menu when I got ~10fps, but the game just needed 15 minutes to compile shaders. Then pressed play—zero config needed—and now it's running like a charm
Does not start at all
Tried a few proton versions, but no difference whatsoever
Not even an error message pops up, the process just stops
+com_allowconsole 1 +set com_bootLogo 0
touch ~/.steam/steam/userdata/[userid]/22350/local/base/autoexec.cfg
seta com_allowconsole "1" seta com_bootLogo "0" seta ui_fov "90" // Field of View r_shadows "0" com_unlockfps "1" com_unlock_maxFPS "144"
When launching the game, my BT headset switches to handsfree mode. Annoying, but you can switch right back.
IIRC, the lag is just the game itself, not proton's fault
mangohud %command%
The game slows down (with more unstable frametimes) constantly. Noticeable after an hour or so. Restarting seems to fix it.
Terrible performance, even compared to the Windows version
I get pretty heavy artifacts, but only when it isn't in focus
Extremely slow. GPU and CPU usage are both at around 30-50%, with occasional peaks on a single CPU core to ~70%. I get ~25 FPS with max settings @1440p. And only ~30fps, even at 720p with Ultra Performance FSR. Usage numbers don't change much at all, and my PC draws the same---very low---amount of power.
(I will say it feels considerably better than ~25fps, but it is definitely not good.)
The game completely froze my entire system twice when trying to go to the first inn. But now it just works
RADV_PERFTEST=nosam VKD3D_CONFIG=DXR11 gamemoderun
Still lower performance than on Windows, but about DOUBLE compared to no tinkering
eval $( echo "mangohud %command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/Base\/Binaries\/Win64Steam\/CivilizationVI_DX12'/" )
Native: The music is very stuttery and glitchy, but only in the leader screens.
Native: most UI mods are broken. Which breaks the game's default UI to be literally unplayable.
Native: you cannot paste text into the game at all, and it does not support IME input. Simply nothing happens.
Proton: pasting works without issue, and IME, while the UI doesn't show up, actually inputs the characters when you press the right keys. However, it still has no support for stuff like emojis and Japanese text.
Native: 25-30fps Proton: locked 144fps
Proton: the main menu and pause UI is exremely slow, having to wait 2-30 seconds between each operation (like opening the saved games list, or turning a mod on/off) The game also takes an very long time to load both the menu and the game itself (~5 minutes)
Neither version is perfect, but one of them is just a terrible experience all around, while the other can sort of be ignored.
