Worked perfectly out of the box. Absolutely no issues, save for some small stuttering in the first hour of the game that eventually subsided
Multiplayer through steam worked exactly as expected
Not only does it run with 0 issue, the performance is exactly 1 to 1 with Windows. Running the in game benchmark at 1440p high preset yielded exactly 97 fps on both Linux and Windows. I'm surprised how flawless this game runs despite the gold rating.
Crashed once after playing about 15 minutes of zombies multiplayer, haven't played much since
Workshop maps do not work anymore. They are all present inside the directory but they just don't show up in game. Tried creating usermaps/zone in the installation directory and copying map files in there but that didn't work either.
Worked just as well as it does on Windows, kinda impressive
Game is almost indistinguishable from Windows, I just hope they fix the workshop content because it was working previously.
Slightly irritating experience but still tolerable. Might be intolerable for someone that plays a lot of comp (I don't).
%command% -sdlaudiodriver pipewire +fps_max 288
Audio seems to get more and more messed up the more you tab out of the game. It will start to get desynced the more you do it and eventually will just stop working, requiring a restart.
Sometimes when in borderless fullscreen the game will not take total control of the cursor which leads to clicking on another monitor accidentally while in game, minimizing the game.
Performance is a bit worse than Windows. I only get around 150fps avg on max settings 1440p, but according to benchmarks I should be averaging in the 200s, which happens rarely.
Official matchmaking works just fine. Wasn't able to play practice games with a friend (he would just get kicked when I started the game) even though the UI suggests that this should be possible, but this might just be a game issue.
Multiplayer works as well as ever, co op campaign has some lag issues
For some strange reason, this game requires a totally separate proton version to work after the winter update. To get it you just have to go into "tools" in your steam library and download "proton hotfix", and then you have to select it in the compatibility settings for the game. It should launch without issue after that.
Haven't tested how it performs on windows so idk if this is specifically a linux issue or if this is just 343 being wonderful developers as usual, but I'm pretty sure I was getting about 2/3 of my usual FPS if I remember correctly (used to get ~120 fps on high settings in multiplayer, now its around 80)
Couldn't be bothered to test online multiplayer, just wanted to see if the game launches now and can actually render 3D. Which it does, if you don't mind reduced performance. But lets be real, that should be in line with expectations for this game.
Game seems to be broken after a recent update
Used to work a couple days ago with the exact same config but it recently just stopped launching. Other people have said they get stuck on an EAC screen but I don't even get that, it just doesn't launch at all but steam still says it's running.
Crashed once when my TV suddenly decided to connect and my displays reorganized (I'm on KDE wayland). Crashed another time for an unknown reason while playing firefight.
Tried playing halo 3 campaign with my friend on xbox and it was unplayable, kicked us out within a couple of minutes of playing every time. Not sure if this is related to linux. Otherwise multiplayer worked perfectly fine, in firefight and matchmaking.
They finally did it, we can play matchmaking now. It works just as well as windows, maybe better even (I was getting slight stutter on windows but perfectly smooth on linux). But currently for some reason selecting the option to launch the game without anti cheat launches it with anti cheat, and vice versa.
Lets be real I dont think anyone would enjoy playing this on any AMD card currently out but Linux surprisingly doesn't inhibit it
RADV_PERFTEST=rt %command%
Random stuff is pixelated, weird color glitches, etc
Stability already wasnt great on Windows so it really isnt that much worse but it seems liable to crash at random times for absolutely no reason. Still able to play the game tho
I totally expected this game to not even launch or if it did just be a literal slideshow but surprisingly... it wasnt. It didnt even take much effort just enable rt in the launch options. And even more surprisingly, performance was almost as good (bad?) as Windows, maybe even the same. Although as mentioned there are some serious graphical glitches but its still not "unplayable", if we could even call the 15 or so fps I got on Windows at 720p with no glitches "playable". Seriously impressive. I wonder if it will get even better when Mesa 22.3 becomes available or if you use AMDVLK or AMDVLK-PRO
Has constant file corruption errors that force a file validation every time. Otherwise works fine.
Usually comes up with an error saying there is a file corruption after 10-30 min of playing. Clicking OK closes the game and forces a file validation. Ignoring the error message and not clicking OK can keep the game running for a bit longer.
