The game requires directx9 to be installed via winetricks. The videos don't work even after installing the required codec packs & gstreamer plugins. If the game still crashes after installing directx9, it's likely due to the videos. In which case, rename the movie subdirectory of the game to movie.bkp to disable them.
No luck getting the movies to play but at least they're not causing the game to crash anymore.
The game would sometimes crash with esync/fsync enabled
