Ran perfect using Proton 4.11-13, no other launch options used.
Changed in-game settings from OpenGL to Vulkan.
I let the game install with Proton version 4.2-9; in-game the mouse input in menu would sometimes lag. Changing to Proton 4.11-13 mouse input perfect and FPS performance increased.
Using Proton 5.0-9: Game would install, but crashed-out, fails to load. Using Proton 5.6-GE-2, 5.8-GE-2-MF, 5.9-GE-2-MF: Game would execute, but crash out after 1-2 hours of game play. https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
However, running on Proton 4.11-13 has been rock solid gaming performance.
Game goes through "first-run setup" every time. Tried recommended posts but didn't work. The issue is minor annoyance.
No modifications, other than specifying Proton version in Steam. Did notice with Proton 4.11-13 the audio was had significant audio noise. Audio was perfect in 4.2-9.
Requires 3rd-party patch and has performance issues. Typical gamer would be probably be less than pleased. Performance is pretty decent.
Installed Proton-5.6-GE-2 https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/ This was need to get past Rockstar Launcher, otherwise it would just hang.
All MXAA options off, Post production is set on normal, Tessellation on normal, Everything else is on Very High or Ultra. FPS averages ~45FPS and smooth.
GTA5 runs very well, once you get right settings. My optimal performance is still Windows, but I'm impressed overall.
Installed Proton-5.6-GE-2, https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.6-GE-2 -- this was needed to fix Rockstar launcher, otherwise loading the game would get stuck at the R-star logo of Rockstar launcher.
FPS (based on in-game benchmark) averages 10-20fps less versus Windows. Best performance, where fps and image quality intersected:
- 2560x1440
- vsync; Reflection MSAA; Ambient Occlusion = OFF.
- Texture; Reflection; water; particles = Very High.
- Shader; Shadow = High.
- FXAA = ON.
- MSAA = 4X.
- Antiotropic filter = X2.
Enabling Reflection MSAA or Ambient Occlusion caused a dropped performance. Experience "lag" (pauses in graphics then shifted reference frame) with MSAA set to 2x-mode, and drop in fps (hypothesis: 4x is optimized algorithm).
The absolute best performance I've had with GTA5 in Linux. Gold-teir or higher experience.
Used Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
Same performance as Windows now.
Inside the Anomaly was a bit more laggy than on Windows, but that place has always been bad for me.
proton-5.6-GE-2 : https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.6-GE-2
Installed from another game, but it's there, have not tried installing NMS, prior to using this patch. However the game also ran under Proton 4.11
Steam-cloud saving is broken, does not properly get data from Steam and put it into directory for NMS. I was able to manually import my saved games by copying folder "NMS" from Windows, C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\
TO Linux directory ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/275850/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/HelloGames/
ave not tested Window mode, was in Full Screen. For best performance my in-game GRAPHICS OPTIONS: Texture Quality=Ultra; all other settings = High, Anisotropic Filtering=2, Anti Aliasing=TAA, GTAO=Off.
Installed and ran with Proton-5.6-GE-2 (GloriousEggroll).
Prior to install/first-run, downloaded UplayInstaller.exe from Ubisoft website, then copied the updated uplayinstaller to FOO/steamapps/common/Steep/Support/Software/GameLauncher/
After replacing the file, installed the game from Steam normally. UplayInstaller from Steam download would install properly, but would never get past looking for updates on startup.
Uplay application was laggy and mouse clicks (changing settings, i.e. Disabling Uplay-overlay) took patience.
Uplay would crash right after doing a cloud-sync (saving game) after closing Steep, if the uplay-in-game-overlay was enabled.
