Tinker Steps:Switch to experimental, Changed configuration
You have to launch the game from desktop mode, it will give an error about missing C++, you can install it from the dialog in desktop mode, but not from SteamOS. Once you install the C++ files from within desktop mode, it launches within SteamOS without issue.
