Without using Proton Experimental the game would start bottom right corner clipped halfway through. Experimental solved it for me.
I was able to run the game 100fps constantly on Windows. Without using proton experimental the max I was able to get is around 65fps. Switching to experimental boosted it to 80fps.
For overall better performance switch to proton experimental.

I was stuck with Running install script (Microsoft DirectX) when launching the game without switching to older version of proton. Switching the version solved it for me.

The issue of Alt+Tab meeting black screen still persists and its still solvable by editing Renderer tag in game.xml by setting it to OGL3. However I was not able to click on anything when alt tabbing but it makes it usable to get back to the game.
Requires Proton BattleEye Runtime. Works fine after installing it.
Fix that helped me here was just reverting back to Proton 6.3-8 version.
I've tried running it out of the box and I couldn't even launch the game. Tried using Proton Experimental but to no avail. I was looking for libsc files that everyone mentioned in their fixes and no files were found.
