never say gg to me

If you're okay with what console developers in the early 2010's would have called a "cinematic" frame rate, it's perfectly playable.
Same audio sync problem others have noted in cutscenes. Audio plays at normal speed, but mouth animations play slower leading to inaccurate lip sync and awkward pauses between lines.
Frame rate is very unstable. When standing still it will be a perfectly smooth (but less than what I expect on this hardware) 70-90, but when moving around it will tank as low as 30 several times a minute. It's still playable, but definitely disappointing. Changing graphics settings doesn't seem to have much effect, I see about as much slowdown on medium as I do on ultra.
Does not run at all on the version of Proton selected by default.
Using base Proton 6.2, audio in cutscenes plays at normal speed but the animations are slow, causing lip movements to look wrong and awkward pauses between lines. Switching to 6.18-GE-2 fixes this issue for me.
Textures occasionally pop in in a jarring manner, and places where textures are supposed to blend (such as a transition from snowy to bare ground) will sometimes have sharp, unnatural cutoffs instead.
A couple weeks ago I tested this game with my PC in a "half upgraded" state with a new GPU but old CPU. At the time I blamed Proton for the sudden framerate drops I was experiencing, but I think I was wrong to do so. After finishing my upgrade, I get a stable framerate on max settings with only minor graphical glitches.
The game will still not run on current versions of Proton (base or GE) for me, although others don't seem to have this problem.
Other than occasional freezes, which are annoying but not game breaking, it works perfectly. GE helps performance but isn't neccesary.
Framerate is extremely inconsistent and lower than I would expect on default Proton. Runs closer to how I would expect on GE. Both stock and GE occasoinally freeze completely for a second or two.
Wouldn't guess it's not native
Objects and textures pop in very close to the player, and some of the more complex effects such as reflections and holograms look a little strange. Hard to know if Proton is to blame or if it's just an artifact of the game being procedurally generated, as I haven't played this on Windows for comparison.
Ran perfectly first try. Annoyingly, you can't open the menu before sitting through the intro, and it defaulted to 1080p and 60FPS cap. But after waiting it out I was able to crank the settings and would never know it's not a native game if I hadn't set it up myself.
Runs flawlessly out of the box
Enabled Proton, clicked play, and I'm gaming. About as painless an experience as you could hope for.
In-game voice comms don't work as many other users have already pointed out.
About half the time, overlays and banners (such as those that announce when you arrive at a new location) will be missing. Other times they work normally. It is possible to restart the game until they work.
When in fullscreen, I can alt+tab to focus other windows, but the game remains on top no matter what. Windows on my second monitor are usable normally.
Native version gets terrible performance, as far as I can tell it does not utilize the GPU at all. It was better on my old Nvidia 2070 Super, but still less than desirable with drops into the single digits during AI turns (come on guys, surely we're past running AI and rendering on the same thread in TYOOL 2022). The game would not run with Proton version selected by default; the launcher would open but there would be an error message on the game's page and clicking "try again" did nothing. Switching to Experimental fixed it, and once working the game performs as expected in terms of FPS.
eval $( echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/Base\/Binaries\/Win64Steam\/CivilizationVI'/" )
Sometimes you can see the "seam" between sections of the map that don't line up perfectly.
Multiplayer works just like on WIndows, and better than the native Linux version which crashes frequently.
The new update causes the 2K Launcher not to open. However by following this guide to bypass it, the game itself still runs fine:
