Steam Launch Option: "WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winedbg.exe=d %command%"
The mouse could drift off screen(still not visible) so that I temporarily lost control of the in-game view
Thanks to https://www.protondb.com/app/271590#troUisLo0 GTA Online worked fine(after not working at all out of the box), and I could launch it directly from "Play GTA Online" instead of the extra wait time as I did previously(probably because of ignorance) "Play Grand Theft Auto V" and then having to click on "Online" as a 2nd step. Good experience!
I played with a lower resolution in fullscreen and turned off all fancy graphics and it worked fine
Sometimes windowed mode would not show the full contents of the screen, alt tabbing back and forth resolves it
Nope, too laggy with this graphics hardware
The cursor traveled really slowly from side to side whether I had settings to lowest or where I ran the game with default graphics settings
at "Orpheus's Dream Configuration" --> Even at resolution 720 x 400, graphics on Medium fullscreen(not Windowed) the game is slow
Significant performance issues may be caused by my graphics card being low-end or game's graphics engine keeping all rooms in active memory as more rooms are explored. You can make a setting for visuals which I had set to lowest.
Me, sure. I'm not that demanding but I don't think the average gamer would be ok with this
Some minor crackling stuff in main menu. In-game I got no problems.
When alt+tabbing out of the game, I could type stuff in text input fields and it would unfocus them so I had to click them again to focus(irritating). Same happened with input fields on Steam
Well, the graphics felt like they were kinda without graphics acceleration but it was still enjoyable to play
I needed this launch option to run the game: PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Without this option I could hear the main menu music but everything was black. I could see nothing so that launch option saved my day!
I'd say yes, if you get the basics of how Rust with Proton works. More instructions follow...
For complete beginners, the first thing we do is open the Steam "Servers" tab. It can be opened in two ways:
- Click on this link steam://open/servers
- If the link doesn't work or you just don't want to click on it go to Steam menus --> View(menu) --> Servers(menu item)
When the "Servers" Steam window has opened:
- Select the dropdown menu Game and choose "Rust" then the other dropdown menu Anti-cheat and choose "Not secure".
- Click on "REFRESH ALL".
- Wait until the servers have loaded.
- Then ie. right click on DeadlockDweebsLinux and select "Connect to server".
- What will happen is that Rust will load then it will automatically connect to the server you chose.
- Enjoy Rust!
I give credit to JimDeadlock(DeadlockDweebsLinux) for being the first post I read here on protondb stating that Rust works with Proton.
Further credits to SFort(Tux Rust) for inspiring me to type this report.
