You need to have at least two controllers (that is, the Steam Deck itself, plus one additional controller) to properly configure the controls in the game and play
Once you plug in the extra controller, you're able to set both controls to XInput controllers. Just change that and save, you can now play Battle Fantasia well. I've been playing undocked, as well as docked with an arcade stick, and no additional issues have appeared.
Enable gyro for a more smooth aiming experience. You might also want to customize the controls if you want some specifics on your back grip!
Cutscenes had to be (converted to fix shortening and mirroring)[https://steamlists.com/devil-may-cry-hd-collection-how-to-fix-fmv-cutscenes-on-your-steam-deck-linux/]
I had a great experience (docked) with DMC3 after patching the cutscenes (https://steamlists.com/devil-may-cry-hd-collection-how-to-fix-fmv-cutscenes-on-your-steam-deck-linux/). Supposedly, the latest update has this patch built-in, so it should become playable/verified soon.
I've been mostly playing it docked and with a keyboard (matter of personal preference) and it works pretty much flawlessly. Especially ironic, considering the game was labeled as unsupported when I first got it.
Set TDP to 10W
Beat the game, from 0 to ending E (including 98% sidequest completion). Game runs @50-60 FPS, with no noticeable slowdowns. Just set compatibility to force Proton 7.0-6 and use these graphic settings:
- Resolution: 800p (720p if docked)
- Screen mode: fullscreen
- Anti-aliasing: disabled
- Texture filtering: 16x
- Shadows: medium
- Ambient occlusion: enabled
- Reflections: disabled
- Details: high
- Performance mode: on
I personally added FSR at level 3 sharpness too, but the game already looks pretty and plays well with those settings.
07th-Mod is optional, I reckon just using the native version and custom controls it could easily be verified.
- Bound A and B to spacebar (which makes the text advance).
- Bound X, Y, Start, L2 and the click of the left trackpad to right click (to access the in-game menu).
- Bound L1 and R1 to the mousewheel (which is used to advance or return in the text).
- Bound R2 and right trackpad click to left click (you can both use trackpad or trackpad + triggers).
- Bound Select to Left Control (which activates fast-forward).
- 60 Hz screen, 60 FPS
- Activated variable shading
- TDP set to 3W
- GPU clock set to 300
This was one of the reasons I got a Steam Deck for, and I'm glad to see it didn't disappoint. Best platform to play Umineko in as of now.
