If you have an Nvidia card it seems like it's best to hold off on buying this. I was impulsive and regret that once again.
%command% -nolauncher
protontricks 1817070 sound=alsa
No sound when using pulse with my 32 channel audio interface.
Audio was completely missing. With Proton logging enabled I could see it that pulse audio was reporting some errors so I switched to ALSA and then audio worked perfectly.
Switch to ALSA using this: protontricks 1817070 sound=alsa
My hardware is just slightly higher than the minimum requirement. On medium settings I thought it looked fine and I was happy with the framerate even though there was occasional stuttering.
After fixing the audio issue I was finally able to get past a freeze during the initial cut scene and get into the game. After this it would just freeze at some point.
The fartherst I made it was just after the server farm.
Freezes pretty randomly.
Wait before buying this unless your hardware/software matches reports that recommend the game. The price is too high for the results a lot of Nvidia users are reporting.
I imagine most people want to hear the game. I'm okay without the audio but it would be nice to hear the screms of my enemies.
LD_PRELOAD="" %command% --nosound --nologo --waitforpreload
Try audio with both alsa and pulse. Most games I play require this or I get no sound. Sound "works" but stutters and the video frame rate is extremely unstable. Alternates between smooth and clunky at a regular interval.
Stuttering audio. Frame rate seems very tied to audio so when audio drops for a few ms the fps drops as well. Disabling audio completely fixes the issue. Attempts to set audio volumes to 'false" in poe2_production_Config.ini were unhelpful.
My hardware is just slightly better than min. reqs so I didn't expect perfection but I should be able to do better than single digit fps.
Sometimes when picking up a very important quest item I've had the entire game just shut down. Others time the game slows to a crawl, the machine becomes unresponsive and I have to reisub.
The game plays fine on my Steam Deck but this isn't a game I want to play on a controller.
If you like idle games then this one isn't bad. It's pretty basic.
- Changed the XYAB buttons to rearrange special attacks and normal attack
- Configured back buttons to be toggles for turbo modes of the special attacks and autoslash
- L1 configured to be toggle for turbo of slash attack
Reduced framerate while idling but I increase the framerate when doing challenges.
Playing at the highest resolution makes reading the text difficult for me but I just hold it closer to read finer print.
Had to force quit one time in my 100+ hours of game time.
OPENSSL_CONF=/etc/ssl/ %command%
With Proton I needed to enable pulse audio with protontricks. Because of my 24 channel audio interface and using JackAudio all the time this is sort of a reoccuring problem but there are some games that don't require any change.
When running with Proton the game can not alt-tab without it becoming unresponsive. It's not completely frozen because I can still open menus and interact with the game until I try to control the character. At that point I have to quit and restart.
The native version does not have this issue.
With Proton there are unpredictable game "freezes". It's weird because it's not completely locked up. The menus work but character controls do not. The mouse cursor can also sometimes be locked to the game so I'm unable to use the mouse in my desktop. At this point I kill the game from a terminal.
The only issue that would prevent me from playing online is the "freeze" that I previously described. So far this is only when running with Proton. I'll update if I run into other issues with the native version.
Play on Steam Deck or run the game with Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout) by selecting it from the compatibility menu.
Also run with the launch option "OPENSSL_CONF=/etc/ssl/ %command%".
What I found from attempting to run the native version on a modern system is that libgcrypt is too new for the game. It's possible to install the older version but I don't recommend doing that. Using the Steam Linux Runtime will fix that issue. At that point the game will still not launch because of an error related to OpenSSL. The launch option above allowed the game to start.
The native game sometimes stutters but that's much better than having to restart the game and potentially lose progress since the last save.
