Tried several versions of Proton and GE-Proton but the gamepads controls just would not register until I tried GR-Proton8-27, then everything worked right away.
100% playable out of the box with the default Proton except the cutscenes won't play, it plays a TV test pattern instead of the cutscene. Switching to GE-Proton gets the cutscenes working as well.

I ran "protontricks 217790 -q winxp vcrun2008 dotnet35" first as others suggested but I don't think it made any difference. I tried it with other Proton and GE-Proton versions but that command always failed probably due to not having winbind installed and my Deck crashed while trying to install winbind so I gave up on that. I came back several weeks later and tried the latest GE-Proton (8-27) which worked right away.
