The game has a few issues with a black screen on the menu and while changing the resolution but this doesn't seem to affect the gameplay.
The main screen is black, you should be able to see the buttons by hovering over the buttons with your mouse. They are in the middle of the screen.
Going fullscreen or changing the resolution will result in a back screen. The game seems to still be playing but you will not be able to see what is going on. (Remember to to save often as it's kinda hard to save with a black screen.)
While you can (supposedly) play through the whole game you will be missing out on important cutscenes.

After playing for a bit I noticed that cutscenes is skipped over and does not play (Might be because of missing wmv playback.)

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" %command%
Game works ok on Proton 9.0 Beta. If you are playing with a resolution over 1080p then you need this patch: https://github.com/zocker-160/Soldiers-HoWW2-widescreen-fix and be sure to add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" %command% in the launch option for the game to pick up on the patch. Moving your mouse outside of the window has a 50/50 chance of crashing the game. Some menu options will just result in a black screen or freeze (for example the campaign introductions.) When you start a mission the screen turn black and then back until you select the difficulty. I have not had any issues when i'm actually in-game.
Game might crash if you alt-tab or move your mouse outside of the window.
If you want to change the keybindings you have to do so from the config file. If i did it ingame it would just revert to the default binding when i clicked apply.
