Game consistently crashes before launching

Every startup attempt crashes with the error: "failed to create D3D12 Device (error = 0x80004005)"
I have tried using different versions of proton (experimental, 9.0-1, and 8.0-5) to no avail.
This error seems similar to one many Windows 10/11 users have encountered so I do not believe it is a Linux specific problem.
