To fix this head to Properties -> Controller -> Enable Steam Input. Steam seems to sanitise inputs preventing the error from occuring

I take back my previous note of "Everything works but low fps". I ran it with D9VK(PROTON_USE_D9VK=1) as suggested by others and it performs phenomenally well, stable 60fps.
