Proton-6.15-GE-2
Game is able to launch and work on 64 bit prefix without glitching or performance loss.
NOTE: The default Proton version do not work, you need a fork of Proton called Glorious Eggroll (GE), version 6.15-GE-2 (or presumably newer). Here is how to install GE: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/wiki . You can get fresh GE from developers here: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases .
Bad performance on high graphical settings
Significant FPS drop (tested on Ultra settings, -40 FPS)
Overall the game works as intended, but FPS has dropped down significantly compared to native Windows performance. 100% not a multiplayer lag, tested on an emty server too.
Works well with the latest Proton
The previous report might have been impacted by problems on my side. As of now, the game runs great on highest settings (with my hardware).
This proton version allows for launching the game automatically fullscreened AND with multithreading! 75+ FPS on Ultra.
Proton-5.11-GE-1-MF GloriousEggroll
The menu turns off master volume for some reason. It can be reenabled without issues. Might be just my problem.
(protonfixes worked automatically, no additional tweaks required)
Singleplayer works 10/10, multiplayer broken for me
Everything works exellent, but lobby system (in multiplayer) says "version mismatch" regardless of actual version.
If your PC is good enough for 40 FPS in High (or better) on Windows, you'll be able to play the game with Linux on Medium or Low.
Had to lower graphic settings quality, but was able to achieve a stable FPS
Devs updated & optimized the game (triceratops beta-test). Performance on Linux significantly improved. Stable FPS at High settings.
To get the Triceratops update, go to the Saurian Discord and look in announcements. It's a very early version of update, so native bugs are to be expected in a huge quanbtities.
EAC blocks Linux users
EAC does not allow to connect to any server while on Linux.
WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/47890/pfx/ winetricks dotnet20
After downloading and placing NetFx64.exe in the games folder: WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/47890/pfx/ wine ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/47890/pfx/NetFx64.exe
Following the advice of Akayoo (huge thanks!):
Install winetricks if you don't have it already
Launch the game, it will crash but will create necessary folders
Download “ NetFx64.exe from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6523 and
Place it in the steamapps/compdata/47890/
Call wine uninstaller for this game via protontricks gui or a teminal command:
WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/47890/pfx/ ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ XX.X/dist/bin/wine64 uninstaller .
Make sure there is no dotnets installed. Don't remove Microsoft Visual C++
4.1 Reboot just in case
Install dotnet20 via winetricks. Protontricks version will not install for 64bit systems. WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/47890/pfx/ winetricks dotnet20
Only after installation is successful, call uninstaller again to replace dotnet installation with NetFx64.exe you placed in a folder earlier: WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/47890/pfx/ ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ XX.X/dist/bin/wine64 uninstaller Choose "repair install" when program window will appear.
That's it. Game will work with any new version of Proton. I chose windows 10 version for the wineprefix, but it will presumably work with win 7 and win XP too. As mentioned earlier, protontricks intallation of dotnet20 is borked so avoid using it. The launcher web UI is broken a bit, so download sims3packs manually or use the game's main menu.
