Runs perfectly (and Natively) on Linux Mint 21
The integrated GPU in my Rysen 5 5600g is able to play BattleTech with graphics on high just fine. No gameplay issues at all.
Be aware that if you are running on, say, a 1920x1080 screen, and switch from fullscreen to windowed mode, and leave the resolution at 1920x1080, then the button you use to access the game settings — which you need to access to change the video resolution back again — will be pushed off the bottom of the screen. In short, it suddenly becomes a whole lot harder to switch back to fullscreen graphics mode. So just avoid doing that, mmkay?
I downloaded and tested the DEMO version first. The DEMO failed to launch under Proton Experimental. The DEMO launched and graphics worked from Proton 7.x/6.x/5.x but there was no sound. Under Proton 4.11-13 both graphics and sound worked in the DEMO. Gave me enough confidence to buy, download and install this — the full — version of the game. Once again, the game failed to launch with Proton Experimental. To my surprise, however, under Proton 7.0-4 not only did the game launch and the graphics work, but the audio worked as well. Sweet! In over 7 hours of playing I haven't come across any compatibility issues at all. I'm getting about 35-40fps @ 1080p with High video settings (but a couple of effects options turned off). That is probably just a limitation of my GTX 1050 Ti though, and I think the framerate is fine for the type of game that this is. No complaints.
Just Works!
Didn't need to jump through any hoops to make it work. The default game settings were entirely acceptable as well. I just installed it and started playing. 129 Hours later and I'm still playing. :) One thing to note: The Ryzen 5 5600G is an APU, so uses system RAM. I allocated 4GB to it (via UEFI) when I built the system. Sniper Elite 4 seems happy enough with that amount.
