Flawless!
You will need to manually map buttons for the Xbox 360 controller.
This game runs perfect with Proton and has excellent performance.
Once I got past the Proton and Xbox 360 controller issues the game ran fine with lower settings on my rig.
My Xbox 360 controller would only work correctly if I used Proton 7.0-2 and I specifically disabled Steam Input.
To get decent FPS I had to manually tune the settings for 1080p.
Sometimes it just crashes.
To get a good experience with this game will require tinkering, but nothing I would consider to be excessive. It is set an forget once you've got it dialed in. Given that I have an old Radeon card I'm surprised how well it plays under Linux.
Running GW3 under Proton actually provides a better experience compared to running native.
When a tremendous amount of enemies are on screen you will see some frame stutter, but it is brief.
The biggest difference is that when running the native GW3 the game would not remember the display settings, thus forcing you to reset everything on every launch of the game. However, the Proton version does not exhibit this issue.
Also, the performance with the native version was noticeably worse than Proton. The performance isn't perfect under Proton , but way better than native. In fact, I broke one of my previous records under Proton
The game is rock solid and I play online all the time. I would say the FPS is similar to what you get on Windows.
After the game is updated it occassionally displays a blank screen at startup. Killing the process and restarting the game fixes the issue. This is a relatively new problem for me, so it may be associated with general distro updates.
Playing with the Steam defaults will result in some stuttering. I discovered that GE, Experimental and Proton 9.0-2 gave a Windows like experience.
Broken!
The game will crash immediately after the first dice roll.
Good news! The game now runs perfectly (WITH SOUND!) using the "experimental-6.3-20211203" version of Proton.
Near Perfect
On my multi-monitor setup, the game will frequently launch behind the KDE taskbar in fullscreen mode. Any easy work-around is to go into the settings after launching and switch from Fullscreen -> Windowed and then back again to have the game window be in front of the taskbar. Definitely annoying, but doesn't impact the game performance at all.
I have been playing online for months now through several RL updates and things have only improved except for the multi-monitor issue. However, I've noticed that many games have issues with multi-monitor setups, so this isn't necessarily any worse than other titles.
Works really well!
Everything works great except when the game is first launched you get a warning about the display driver being out-of-date, but if you just click "Yes" everything works fine.
