followed this guide to change vm.max_map_count to 1048576 to fix the game crashing

if you have the newest ubuntu LTS it should work out of the box since they updated vm.max_map_count but on 22.04 and older you will need to raise that to make the game not crash

Input:Controller Mapping, Responsiveness

Logitech G29 was detected but the input was all wrong. On proton experimental the input seemed to be going insane. On proton ge the input was more sane but had problems that made it unusable, such as ONLY steering right regardless of wheel mapping. These problems seem to be with proton ge/experimental and not the game itself since they happen exactly the same way on FS19 when running those versions of proton. FS19 works just fine with the G29 on 6.3-7 but FS22 crashes on that version of proton. Wheel issues will likely be fixed when a new stable release of proton comes out that supports FS22.

once a match is complete it seems to just go to a black screen where i can still bring up the chat but that's all i can do, while it's at this screen it's using quite a bit of my CPU but it never seems to go anywhere, just sits on that black screen until i close the game
