Never mind trying to run under proton. Install WINE 7 instead and run launcher that way. Game runs fine.

Game Runs without problems under WINE 7.0.0
This game has never run under Linux for me, even with Proton enabled. In fact the launcher for the game is still broken if you try to run the game through steam. However, if you install the Update for WINE 7 you can launch the game with WINE. Go to home/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/FinalFatasyFFX&FFX-2 and start the launcher using WINE Windows program loader, and the game will now work as intended.
Set up the game through Lutris to point to the game launcher and you're good to go.

One thing: After you install close steam and restart. Then play the game.

Overall (local):Excellent
When you first install and try to run the game, you'll get a hung screen where it installs DirectX. But if you first close steam and restart, you avoid this problem. After that it's good to go.
