Worked great out of the box, default settings.
On the listed hardware I had zero issues (no slowness, stuttering, no tinkering with default Steam settings) - the game ran great. On a POP-OS laptop with a 3050, I eventually needed to reduce settings because of occasional freezes - your mileage may vary - with the laptop I went through multiple Proton versions with the same issues - so perhaps the game isn't quite optimized to work with some older cards.
With Fedora 34 this is probably the 3 distro/version I've gotten Space Engineers working on. Using the Proton tricks how to that most people have, it eventually works. Had a terrible time getting dotnet48 installed using any method, until getting sidetracked, I rebooted - the next time I tried, it all worked perfectly - can't explain it. Love this game.
Expected to need to tinker, but didn't have to at all, it just worked perfectly.
