Fantastic game marred by terrible performance and crashes. Crashing too many times will trigger a Denuvo lockout.

The performance is bad everywhere but truly horrendous in cities
Game likes to crash when opening a menu but it sometimes crashes randomly as well. Crash frequency is inconsistent, sometimes crashing minutes apart and sometimes allowing hours of uninterrupted play. Crashes lock the computer and requires a forced restart. Launching the game too many times can trigger a Denuvo lockout, even without changing proton versions or launch commands.
The game is great enough that I've been been playing it at borderline unplayable framerates and with terrible crashes. The autosave system is robust enough that progress loss isn't really an issue thankfully. I've played on Proton Experimental and Glorious Eggroll and there was no significant performance difference or change in crash frequency between the two versions.
SIngle player works as normal beyond some performance issues beyond what is expected for windows
gamemoderun %command%
Audio freezes alongside visual freezes
Significant frame drops and freezes (beyond what was experienced on the same hardware with Windows 10)
Game crashed every time I attempted to start a multiplayer lobby (PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 fixed this crash but caused massive performance issues)
Both players crashed when attempting to create lobby (PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 was required but caused massive performance issues for one of the players)
Music would cut in and out randomly and SFX would or wouldn't play when triggered at random. Switching from the native Linux build to Proton fixed the issues.
I couldn't use the Steam overlay but nobody else has reported the same issue (I also asked the dev and it was their first time hearing of it) so it might be a problem on my end.
