Installed the AMD drivers to get color correction with OBS recordings using hardware acceleration. Otherwise everything works really well with my video card. Full motion dialogue videos are a bit smoother with a bit of overclocking with CoreCtrl.
It takes quite a bit of time to load. Then when it finally loads, the controls stop responding.
The game needs to be loaded multiple times in order for a DS 4 controller to respond properly in game.
Rockstar's loader software and "social club" interface seem a bit clunky and troublesome. It seems to load the game in multiple steps. Sometimes the social club has intermittent connectivity. Sometimes the game loads somewhat differently, at times loading the Story Mode before loading the menu.
Stability issues with DS 4 controller and AMD 580 graphics with kisak-mesa.
In my original report I did not address a problem I felt was possibly due to the overclocking on my cpu. I brought the clock down on my chip. Seemed to work great, but thought I would give it at least three days. I recently ran the game, it locked up like it did when the previous problem occurred. This time, however, instead of the video resetting into a CGA like screen and the game crashing after some time (more often interrupted by me dropping to terminal and killing all GTA V processes and restarting gdm), it stuttered for a few moments, locked the screen, but then resumed after a few more moments. I was able to play like nothing happened with one catch, I lost DS 4 controls, I had to mouse and keyboard it, which didn't work out that great. ;) Trevor got pwned! I believe this to be related to my prior issues with the controller, and that after bringing the clock down on my cpu the game was somehow more stable and able to recover from a near catastrophic failure.
As per prior notes, game locks up occasionally and produces the resulting problems as described.
From what I've noticed when the game has run at top level, the AMD 580 card I have is a winner for this game. I've run it full bore with 4x MSAA and 8x antialiasing and the graphics have been smooth and a pleasure to watch. Just a shame to have these stability issues. I've tried nearly every mesa PPA available for Ubuntu 20.04.1, the kisak turtle mesa is stable and compares to out-of-the-box mesa. I'd run oibaf if I felt lucky, but I don't. :D
If a DS4 game controller is used then this game is not optimal out of the box. But there is an easy enough fix.
DS4 Controller. Button configuration was not appropriate. Used launch options to correct: /UseNativeGaInput=true /UseNativeGaInputNoControllers=false
Games fails to load with error.
As with many other reports, the game fails to load. The error message provided from a Wine dialog says to launch the game from Steam despite having been exactly that, loaded from Steam.
Native and Proton Failed
Tried Native, Proton 4.11-9, 4.2-9 and 3.16-9.
Native: Doesn't run, just crashes immediately.
Proton: Game loads, menu appears, then when entering Single Player Tutorial or New Game the loading indicator stops at "loading savegame" and the computer becomes unresponsive.
Tried turning Steam Overlay off, same behaviour.
gamemoderun %command%
Multiplayer was attempted but the game did not find other players to match in a reasonable amount of time.

Music and voices were missing until the provided launch option was set in Steam.
