Doesn't start, aborts with "abnormal program termination"

Tested with both Intel 630 and AMD VegaM chipsets, in either case it eventually aborts with:
abnormal program termination
No game window is shown. Tested with Proton 5.13-6 and 6.3-1.

Works OK after adding the `--skip-intro` flag. Crash on campaign outro, but majority of the game works fine.
Customizations:
Must add --skip-intro to launch options
Instability:Occasionally
Video playback crashes. This happens with the intro (can be skipped with --skip-intro) and at the end of the main campaign (crashes, but progress is saved).
Note that there's a native Linux build too, but it's sadly worse than the Proton experience:
- Also crashes on videos
- Crashes on cutscenes (a lot more frequent than videos, game breaking)
- Fullscreen doesn't handle toolbar on Plasma
