I made a copy of the Steam-installed Proton 4.11 into my compatibility tools.
cp ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton 4.11 ~/.steam/steam.compatibilitytools.d/Proton-4.11-alt
In the copied Proton folder I put in a compatibilitytool.vdf
file
{
"compat_tools"
{
"Proton-4.11-alt" // Internal name of this tool
{
"install_path" "."
"display_name" "Proton-4.11-alt"
"from_oslist" "windows"
"to_oslist" "linux"
}
}
}```
Then I downloaded the patched ntdll.dll.so (second link) from
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/175#issuecomment-600465929
and put it in `~/.steam/steam.compatibilitytools.d/Proton-4.11-alt` replacing the existing `ntdll.dll.so`
I restarted Steam and picked my custom compatibility tool (Proton-4.11-alt) under MH:W properties.
The game worked just as well as with GE 5.2, I was able to go on multiple hunts and play with others.
Worked very well; able to play significantly through the storyline and multiplayer.
Tutorial videos don't work without additional fixes
Able to run with maxed settings on Ubuntu 19.04 with no tweaking. Haven't tried the tutorial videos. Occasional mouse lag in inventory.

Steam launch options: PROTON_USE_SECCOMP=1 %command%
Alt+Tab or using the Steam Overlay (Shift+Tab) will sometimes not allow input in the game after returning
Base game runs excellently except for the Xeno'jiiva fight; Iceborne runs excellently except for Shrieking Legiana fight. Some graphical effect is used heavily during these fights but I'm not sure which.
Cutscenes are all kinds of messed up but they're not important to be able to play
Works immediately. Plays well, had to adjust the controls: Flight -> WASD Camera -> Mouse since it defaults to gamepad
I was able to max out all the visual settings and it played perfectly. Just wish more populated servers were available.
