The game plays better than my initial review. I see it now has gone platinum.
The game had some slight issues when I first reviewed and started playing the game. None of those are evident now. I also use an "out of the box" config right now due to a super fresh Debian install. The game is as close flawless as I think it can get.
Lowered resolution to 960x540 and enabled FSR.
The game is pretty power hungry, even at half resolution with FSR on. Draws about 20W in-game, so you'd probably only get 2 hours and change on a full battery.
I've play the game on Windows and it sounds...different slightly.
My internet is not great so I expect an occasional burp. Hard to tell if it's my internet speed or the game.
Great experience. The game is just a blast to play and worth a look. The game works amazingly.

Aside for some minor stutters, it runs great.
There is some stutter during quick camera pans (like on a fly ball) and screen transitions that I don't get in Windows.
Runs perfect with no special settings even at 1440p.
SMB3 worked out of the box for me. No issues to report. One of the better games I've played using Proton.
Runs great out of the box. Feels native. Wired Xbox 360 controller recognized and worked perfectly.
Works out of the box with keyboard / mouse and Xbox wireless controller.
The game ran perfectly out of the box
Everything worked out of the box with Proton 5.0-7. I play it with a wired Xbox One controller.

Artifacting/missing textures hurt gameplay
Player models had pink/white artifacting that hindered gameplay, skybox backgrounds in stadium did not load
