Do not use SteamVR + ALVR (no output to hmd). Used WiVRn 0.20-4 (launch options are exactly for it).

Fatal error on launch
Tried to install UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe from */Engine/Extras/Redist/en-us
Not playable

Game displays on monitor instead of Valve Index

After trying all the different launch commands and finding the only Proton version it didn't crash with a fatal error, the game did not display anything on the VR headset, only the window on my monitor

Slight constant stutter, making especially text blurry when moving
If moving my hands too far away from the playspace, for example by putting them away to go to the bathroom, the in-game hands/controllers would completely disappear forcing me to restart the game
While running Pop_OS 20.04 with Proton 7 (which is the newest version of Proton working on 20.04), I had the same issue described below with the audio randomly disappearing completely. After upgrading to 22.04 and Proton Experimental, the issue went away.
Game doesn't launch without setting custom launch option. After that it runs perfectly fine when disabling dynamic shadows.

With Dynamic Shadows enabled I got some stuttering in certain areas. Disabling Dynamic Shadows fixed it for me.
The game closes itself immediately and wouldn't start unless the aforementioned launch option is set. This can be a problem on windows as well afaik.
Audio works wonderfully for anything from 5 to 30 minutes, then stops. Restarting the game fixes it. It's annoying.
Almost flawless, including no performance problems and no glaring reprojections on a NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER + Valve Index. The only flaw is indeed the sound stopping.
You better have better hardware to play it comfortably
On a Vega 56 you get around 35% of re-projected frames, compared to 5% on Windows. Even after lowering the settings this doesn't go away
Initially it crashed SteamVR on startup, but after restarting Steam+SteamVR it ran nicely.
For decent performance I had to reduce the resolution to 80% in the in game settings on my Vega 64 with an Index @ 144 Hz.

Game loads up but freezes before you can do anything.
