The only change I made was setting the steam deck controls to gamepad with mouse support on the trackpad to navigate the ingame menus (it works strange and not that convinient with gamepad only controlls). In-game, I switched the control method to gamepad and bound all the necessary buttons. After that, everything worked perfectly.
