No longer requires PROTON_USE_WINE3D3=1 %command%, but there are two major issues you need to deal with.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Some particle effects slow the game down to a crawl. Namely, the effects from magical skills (e.g., fire spells).
Text is no longer garbled with latest version of Proton. However, there are two major issues:
The game runs super fast at anything above monitor refresh rate of 60 hz. To fix this, you can manually limit the refresh rate with the launch option above.
Certain particle effects cause the game's framerate to crawl. I don't know of any fixes, but you can turn off particle effects in the game's battle options menu.
No controller support what's so ever, will require custom or community layout. Worth nothing that although the game is primarily controlled by mouse, there's a bunch of useful keyboard shortcuts as well, they're not listed anywhere in game but you can find them on the steam discussion board under a pinned thread titled "Information for players" by one of the devs.
No issues besides that.
Garbled fonts.
To fix garbled fonts, simply add this to your launch options:
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Wined3d fixes the garbled fonts
I reached the ending credits, it's playable as long as long as you switch to WineD3D to fix fonts.
WineD3D fixes the broken fonts.
Alt-tabbing crashes the game in fullscreen, but works fine in windowed mode.
As an aside, this is not a problem with Proton, but the game doesn't support multiple resolutions, all you get is 800x600 window or fullscreen with at least aspect ratio kept. You'll probably get better experience if you can figure out how to make the game run in a bigger window in Linux.
Fonts are really scrambled
Nearly all of the status screens are garbled and font corruption gets worse while playing
Fonts garbled
PROTON_LOG reveals a large number of "not a jpeg" and interlaced png messages that I suspect are related to the game's attempt to use its own font.
Font is distorted to the point of unplayability, its most often readable, but i don't think that's enjoyable.
Fonts are completely broken, ranges from hard to read to completely unreadable
Fonts are completely distorted
Disabling overlay fixes slight text displacement on title screen and configuration menu, but in game text is still improperly rendered.
Fonts are not rendered properly.
Audio has static/distortions, fonts are rendered wrong with artifacts and the wrong spacing.
