For first time setup you need to boot into desktop mode and launch the game from Heroic. Your web browser will open a window asking if you want Runbow to access your Epic Games account. Accepting will launch the game. You can now quit the game and go back to gaming mode. You should be able to launch the game from gaming mode every time now.

Worked as designed.
When first atarting, it will not leave start screen until you have allowed epic games access. Granting access can easily be done through the browser pop-up that should open the first time you start the game.
