LOTUS-NG based on Bevy/Rust (Windows .exe) always crashes on start
The small team behind LOTUS has changed the game engine for this Early Access title a second time. First, it was something they've developed themselves. Then they switched to Unity. Now the second switch to Bevy/Rust (because Unity now wants money per installation). Previous releases ran with Steam/Proton quite well, even better than on native Windows, but this new version based on Bevy/Rust won't start at all. Until now, I haven't been able to find a workaround:
- 2024-04-16T19:04:34.610079Z ERROR tracing_panic: A panic occurred panic.payload="called
Result::unwrap()
on anErr
value: Error { code: HRESULT(0x80004001), message: "Not implemented." }" panic.location="C:\Users\Mochida Yuka\.cargo\registry\src\index.crates.io-6f17d22bba15001f\gilrs-core-0.5.11\src\platform\windows_wgi\gamepad.rs:515:67"
Seems to be related to Windows Gaming Input (WGI).
The developers hinted there would be a Linux-native version later, but not right now. A shame, considering Linux seems to be the natural environment for Bevy/Rust projects.
- Note: I tried several proton versions.
The game is playable on Linux and the framerate is better than on Windows, however some game elements will crash the game.
Sometimes the game's textures would load incorrectly or load a drastically low-res texture as if it were loading textures from a game from 1994.
Most windows that open outside of the game fail to load properly or at all and this breaks the game's map editor on Linux.
Loading any windows outside of the game will cause the game to crash (e.g. on the main menu, when picking a map, I can click on a map icon to show me a top-down vector view of the game's map but on Linux this crashes the game whereas it does not on Windows 10)
Loading some other parts of the game may randomly cause the game to crash.
Some versions of Proton work but most do not as they lack the windows-specific features of this game, thankfully when development is 100% complete, the devs will port this to Linux.
Läuft OOB ohne Probleme
Some slight crackling could be heard sometimes, not sure if it's Proton or game's fault
Simulator starts and can be used. Graphics might need adjustment.
Some sounds are crackling, other sounds work fine. Noticed only ones that are only used once or twice have this issue.
Some polygons on maps where rendered incorrectly. Not sure yet if it was the map itself or the game.
Performance, depending on the amount of objects in render distance reduced. However, noticed higher fps in areas with less objects.
