Works for me
At stock settings It didn't want to launch, but forcing Proton 9.0.1 made it work. I am not sure why the stock setting didn't work since it's also Proton 9, maybe it's just my system. But it started, video ran fine, audio is fine, controls and saving all worked. Alt-Tabbing didn't crash it (it does stall the sound out instead of muting it) If Proton 9 doesn't work for you, then Experimental also works
So this game is definitely not a Silver rating.
The game takes some time to start up
Suggestions that worked for others didn't help me start the game unfortunately but switching to Proton 3.7-8 (same I used for the trilogy's second entry "The Cat Lady") made it work like a charm.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
I needed to play on Experimental. After playing and closing the game, it wouldn't start. I had to launch it with the command "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%".
Force use of Proton to override non functional Linux version
The game sometimes does not launch. Toggling between fullscreen/windowed mode in the setup/config launcher appears to fix that.
The game has a native Linux version that does not work on recent distros. You need to force Proton or else Steam will download and try to run the Linux version.
Crash ou freeze au lancement, essayé avec Proton 8, 7 et expérimental. Essayé aussi sans succès de le lancer en windowed.
Injouable
The game wouldn't launch using the default proton. Switching to proton 3.7.8 solved the issue. The on-screen keyboard needs to be brought up manually to save the game.
Not working for me unfortunately... :(
The game is running well.
Played for four hours so far. Zero problems. Runs perfectly.
Both the main game Downfall (2016 remake) and the original (2009 version) that is included work just as well as on Windows. Tried both fullscreen and windowed, and also loading and saving games. However note that these games are running on the buggy AGS engine. With both games set them to use maximum size sprite cache or they may be crash. Steam overlay will not work with sofware rendering. The 2009 version can refuse to run if you use anything but the default 640x480 resolution and no filtering. And both games may sometimes just hang when launching having to kill the process and re-launch the game. Still rating this Proton platinum, because these are all bugs and issues that exist on the windows version.
None of the tweaks works either
Developers abandoned linux port yet cannot install windows version through steam, nothing happens when launch attempted
Game won't start, nothing happens
Just nothing happened
