PROTON_USE_WINED3D = 1% command%
Works perfectly without any glitch or crashes. Use Proton 5.0-10 ed add PROTON_USE_WINED3D = 1% command% on launch options

Rare Craches or Lockups, Equal expirence to Windows
Force Compatibility to Proton 5.0-10

Real-time battles were pretty slow, campaign map is fine
Had to drop down all the way to Proton 4.11-13, newer ones always crashed at title screen, probably issues with the title video. 4.11-13 never even displays that video
Launch total war shogun 1 first?
At 1920x1080 resolution fullscreen, it only shows about quarter of the screen (alt tabbing usually fixes this)
I wasn't able to get this game to work originally, (tried GE, wine etc). but when i launched shogun 1 and tested it for a bit, then i launched medieval 1 out of curiosity (they both run on the same engine), works fine aside from resolution issues. could be a coincidence though.
Launch options PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 if fonts don't show
Very low FPS even at 640x480 resolution
It's very difficult to see units at 640x480, the game is not playable
I had to add in the launch parameters: PROTON_USE_WINED3D = 1% command%.
works perfectly with the latest d9vk master where wined3d fails but its a classic total war experience.
used the latest master of d9vk to get all the game to render correctly
updated d9vk

Go into game properties and set it to betas "previous_version" otherwise game GUI wont work and units don't render

You need change your game version, go to properties of the game -> Betas and choose the "previous_version" . With this you can run battle mode without problem.

Launcher works, but only displays a white box. Clicking in the correct part of the launcher (the left upper side) will launch the game, and the campaign map, menus, music/sound, and cinematics work without issue. The battle map is however completely broken; units and the cursor are invisible, buttons are templates. Only playable if auto resolving battles.

Launcher does not display properly, but "play" button can be found with exploration. Menus, sounds, and Campaign map all work. Battles do not, command icons are all black, and (crucially) mouse cursor does not display. Game playable if all battles are autoresolved.

Main menu and cinematics work. In-game fonts, cursor, and parts of the UI are missing.
