Proton experimental has been selected for all my other games, haven't tried stable (currently 9.0-3), game works without tinkering. For me it defaulted to medium settings, on Index with nvidia and no async reprojection (both steam client and steam vr are beta) it runs pretty smooth on my Index. Only issue maybe: I need to grab the Index controllers pretty tight or objects will fall out of the hand easily.
