WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,b" %command%
I've noticed in later levels that the fps gets worse and worse to the point that it's almost unplayable.
Apparently the draw calls are very inefficient which causes the poor performance. I found this comment here with a fix: https://www.gog.com/forum/ground_control_series/any_way_to_improve_the_framerate/post3
WineHQ bug report: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33814
Fix: https://github.com/steveschnepp/d3d7batch
Download the ddraw.dll and put it in the Ground Control folder containing the gc.exe. Then add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,b" %command% to the game's launch options in Steam.
After doing this, the game runs at a constant 60 fps.

Changed left joystick to arrow keys and right joystick to numpad 2,4,6,8. Changed in-game camera setting for down, right, left and up to those numpad keys, allowing me to turn and tilt the camera with the right stick. Changed the bumper buttons to page up and page down, since they work better for changing the camera height.
Sometimes dips down to 30 FPS at 1024x768 but was still playable.
Had to tweak the controls to be more intuitive and convenient, but otherwise runs great.

It runs no major issues so far I have played the first few missions no issues that affect gameplay.
Fullscreen is set on the left edge of the screen rather than the center. It isn't really a problem just weird.
I have the game through GOG I don't know if that changes anything.

mostly works, has some minor issues but otherwise okay
lags a bit when view range is at max and looking at the horizon

-mod DARKCONS
The game runs fine on Steam Deck. You can change to a higer resolution, which makes the text tinier and puts more content on screen, because it's a game from the late 1990ies. Don't enable 32-bit video mode! It did not work and it makes not much sense anyways for these kind of games. Many graphics cards and games at the time claimed to be 32-Bit capable, but there was no big difference. If you get stuck with an non working configuration on Steam Deck, choose software renderer from the startup options and change the options again in the game menu. Good luck and enjoy.
This bundle is said to include the Dark Consipracy extension, and indeed it does, but you'd have to dig a bit to find out how. One of the manual files in the game folder tells you that it is run from the same exe but needs the command line option "-mod DARKCONS". Since I have seen multiple launch options for other games but I don't know how to do that myself, Steam should add this to the out of the box experience.
I was not able to launch the game from the Steam Deck desktop, there it provides an additional launcher to launch the main game or the extension, but then the screen turn black and I don't know what to do. But I'm on Steam Deck for a reason, so I don't use the desktop unless necessary.
The game does not support higher screen resolutions and gets rendered fullscreen, a bit off center horizontally and with left/right black borders. Videos are glitchy or don't show, but sound works (ESC to skip works).
Surprisingly, https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33807 is no longer an issue with hardware acceleration.
Not horizontally centered.

while the game is seemingly fully functional, without good mouse movement it will remain very unplayable for most users
5.9-GE-6-ST GloriousEggroll
mouse input was inverted, in software rendering graphics mode cursor would not move diagonally and was extremely laggy

After clicking the "Play"button in the Steam client, a white window appears with some links ("Play"," Dark Conspiracy","Support"). After clicking on the "Play" link, the display turns black and a small area contains some animation, but I don't see the full game menu.

Game does not display correctly, only a small part of the screen is visible, other than that, the game probably runs okay, I was able to get into the tutorial area but I was unable to test gameplay even after attempting some of the tweaks due to display problems.
The game launcher also does not display correctly, but the buttons on it work.
Menus and cutscenes seem to work fine but not all of it is visible.

Cinematics do not work (blank screen). However, you can single click to skip them. Otherwise, everything else works perfectly without any tweaks.

Playable in software rendering mode. HW rendering still has issues with objects disappearing at most angles. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33807
